Combat is the heart of Xterium. Victory depends not on the size of your fleet, but on its composition, intelligence, and tactics. Here you’ll find everything you need to know about combat: how it’s scored, what happens afterward, and how to fight smart.

How a Fight Works

Start with the mechanics “How Combat Works”: 10 rounds, rate of fire, how damage penetrates shields and armor. This is the foundation—without it, the rest doesn’t make sense.

What to fight with

Team composition is key. Check out Ships (which ships are effective against which) and Defense (how to defend a planet). The abbreviations FL/FM/FH and DL/DM/DH are explained in the glossary.

Pre-battle Reconnaissance

Attacking blindly means losing your fleet. The mechanics section “Espionage and Intelligence” explains how to obtain accurate intelligence on a target before striking.

What Remains After the Battle

A destroyed fleet drops debris that can spawn a moon. For a step-by-step guide on how to obtain a moon, see the guide “How to Obtain a Moon”.

How Not to Lose Your Fleet

The most important skill is [](/knowledge/guides/kak-ne-poteryat-flot) Fleet Save]. Without it, even a strong fleet can be lost in a single night.

War Within the Alliance

The Highest Level of Combat — [](/knowledge/guides/kak-voevat-v-alyanse) Alliance War: Joint Attacks (JAT), War Points, Factions, and Skills.

Frequently Asked Questions

What determines victory in a fight? Victory depends not on the size of the fleet, but on its composition, intelligence, and tactics. Let's start with the mechanics of "How Combat Works": rounds, rate of fire, and how damage penetrates shields and armor.

Why is reconnaissance necessary before a battle? Attacking blindly means losing your fleet. Intelligence provides accurate information about the target before the strike, and that is where any attack should begin.

What's left after the fight? A destroyed fleet leaves behind debris that can be used to create a moon. To learn how to craft a moon, check out the guide “How to Craft a Moon.”

How Can You Keep From Losing Your Fleet? The most important skill is saving your fleet. Without it, even a strong fleet can be lost in a single night.
