Every fleet flight in Xterium is a mission with a specific objective. The choice of mission determines what the fleet will do at its destination and whether it will return on its own. This guide explains all mission types: what each one involves and when to choose it.

Attack

The fleet flies to an alien planet and engages in battle. If the target’s defenses are weaker, you win and take some of its resources. Reconnaissance is mandatory before an attack (“Espionage and Reconnaissance”]): attacking blindly means losing your fleet.

Transportation

Delivering resources to your own or an allied planet. The main tool for peace: transferring loot between colonies or helping your alliance. The fleet returns on its own—which is why transport ships are often used for [](/knowledge/guides/kak-sejvit-flot) saves.

Unfold (flip)

Moving a fleet to one of your other planets or moons permanently—the fleet remains there. This is convenient when redeploying forces to a new front. Travel time depends on speed—see the mechanics section “Fleet Speed, Travel Time, and Fuel Consumption”].

Espionage

Send reconnaissance probes to find out what’s on an alien planet: resources, fleet, defenses. The accuracy of the data increases with the espionage level. This is the first step before any attack—details in the “Espionage and Reconnaissance” mechanics.

Colonization

Send a colonist to an unoccupied location to establish a new colony. This is how your empire grows. To learn which planets to choose and how to read coordinates, check out the guide “Orbit and Galaxy”].

Scrap Recycling

After a battle, [](/knowledge/mechanics/oblomki-i-luna) debris remains in orbit. Special recycling ships collect it and convert it back into resources. Don't miss out on other players' major battles—there's usually a lot of debris there.

Expedition

Send your fleet to unexplored sectors for random rewards: resources, ships, and finds. Safe farming for progression. Learn how to farm effectively in the guide “How to Farm Expeditions”].

Retention (ACS)

Several alliance players send a fleet to a single planet and defend it together—this is the foundation of coordinated defense and attacks (ACS). To learn how this works in war, check out the guide “How to Fight in an Alliance”].

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the “Transport” mission do? A transport delivers resources to its own planet or an allied planet. The fleet returns on its own, so transports are often used for saving as well.

How is “Deploy” different from “Transport”? "Deploy" (relocation) moves the fleet to one of your other planets or moons permanently—the fleet remains there.

Why is the "Espionage" mission necessary? Espionage involves sending reconnaissance probes to find out what’s on another planet: its resources, fleet, and defenses. It’s the first step before any attack.

What is the “Retention (ACS)” mission? Several alliance players send a fleet to a single planet and defend it together—this is the basis of coordinated defense and attacks (ACS).
