Defenses are structures on a planet that protect it from the enemy fleet. Defenses have two important features that the fleet does not have: they leave no debris behind, and they partially regenerate after battle. Here’s how it works. All data is taken from the game’s code.
Where the data comes from. The mechanics and list are taken directly from the game engine (the War of Alliances universe). Building cards can be found in the Defense section of the encyclopedia. For information on how combat works, see the article How Combat Works.
How does the Army differ from the Navy?
- Defenses do not drop debris. When a fleet is destroyed in battle, half of its resources turn into debris that can be collected. This is not the case with defenses: a destroyed defense does not produce debris (0%). Therefore, it is not worth attacking an “unprotected” defense just for the loot.
- Defenses are restored after a battle. After each battle, the defender restores a portion of their destroyed defenses for free—randomly between 50% and 70% per battle. The fleet doesn't work that way: lost ships are gone forever.
These two rules together define the essence of defense: it’s cheaper in the long run (it “repairs” itself to some extent) and doesn’t provide the attacker with debris.
What Types of Structures Are There?
Defenses are divided into shield domes and weapons of various classes.
| Type | What is this? | Role |
|---|---|---|
| Shield Domes (Small, Medium, Large) | Walls as shields without weapons | They take damage to protect the weapons. They cannot attack. |
| Light Artillery (Guardian/Panzer/Hammer/Achilles DL-1) | Light Defense | Against small ships |
| Medium Artillery (Guardian/Panzer/Hammer/Achilles DM-2) | Midfield Defense | The Versatile Middle Class |
| Heavy Artillery (Guardian/Panzer/Hammer/Achilles DH-3) | A Tough Defense | Against large ships |
| Prime Defense (Valkyrie, Prometheus, Armageddon) | Top-of-the-Line Systems | The Most Powerful Defense |
You can build multiple domes (it's not just "one")—they absorb damage while the guns are firing.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why do we need a defense force if the navy is stronger? Defense is cheaper in the long run: it isn't completely lost—50–70% of it is restored after a battle. And it doesn't leave any debris for the attacker.
Will the defense be fully restored? No, on average, 50–70% is destroyed during a battle. The rest needs to be rebuilt.
Is it okay to "farm" someone else's defense for scraps? It's pointless: debris doesn't provide any defense (0%). Debris is only dropped by destroyed ships.
Are there any interceptor missiles in the game? No, there are no interceptor missiles (as in some similar games in this genre) in Xterium's defenses—only shield domes and cannons.
How can we strengthen our defenses? Through [](/knowledge/mechanics/modernizacii-kak-rabotayut) upgrades: the shields of the domes are boosted, and the attack, armor, and shields of the cannons are boosted.
