Xterium Expeditions

Long-range fleet sorties into uncharted sectors: resources, rare materials and parts for upgrades. Expeditions are unlocked by the "Astrophysics" research — which also lets you send more flotillas per sortie.

An expedition is sending a fleet into deep space. There is one non-combat sector ("Endless Expanse" — searching for resources, fleet and rare materials) and four combat ones: Ruins, Barbarians, Pirates, Devastators. Expeditions are unlocked and strengthened by the "Astrophysics" research — each of its levels adds flotillas per sortie, and the combat sectors also require their own level.

5 expedition sectors

Endless Expanse
Non-combat sector

Peaceful deep-space reconnaissance — without direct battles. Here you find resources, fleet, dark matter and rare star ore. The chance to find dark matter is about 10%, up to 120,000 per sortie (more — with the "Expeditions" premium bonus). But there is a risk: part of the fleet may go missing.

How a combat sector works: 50 points

Each combat sector — Ruins, Barbarians, Pirates, Devastators — is a chain of 50 target points. The first is open right away; each next one is unlocked only by victory over the previous. The farther the point — the stronger the target and the more fleet you need, but the reward is bigger too.

Unlocking by chain
The first point is open right away. Each next one is unlocked by victory over the previous; both the required level of the "Expedition" research and a minimum number of sorties are needed.
Power grows with the number
The target's points and the required size of your fleet grow together with the point number — roughly linearly, plus a separate difficulty multiplier. Distant points require a noticeably larger and more upgraded fleet.
A boss every 10 points
Points 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50 are reinforced bosses: about ×1.5 points and tougher in technology, but they give more parts and cores for the arsenal. From the second boss on, a level of "Aggression" is also needed.
The reward grows with the point
The number of finds (parts) increases with the point number: the farther you get — the more you receive per battle, and bosses give many times more.

Power and reward growth by point

The farther the point — the stronger the target, the more fleet you need and the bigger the reward. Below are reference points of each combat sector (numbers). Every 10th point is a boss (highlighted): it is more powerful, but also gives noticeably more.

Difficulty (the target's technology) also grows with the point: in the Ruins it is harder, with Hostile it is softer. "Target points" is the enemy fleet's power, "Your fleet" is the recommended size; the actual outcome depends on the fleet composition and arsenal upgrades. Parts drop almost guaranteed, their amount grows with the point; on bosses cores are added.

How expeditions work

Astrophysics — the key
Expeditions are unlocked by the "Astrophysics" research; the higher its level — the more flotillas (fleet groups) go out per sortie, and the more loot with them. And the combat sectors are unlocked by a separate "Expedition" research at the required level: Ruins — 1, Barbarians — 3, Pirates — 6, Devastators — 8.
What you find
Resources (metal, crystal, deuterium), dark matter, star ore (a large fleet is needed), fleet, parts and cores for the arsenal.
Points and bosses
Each combat sector is a map of points. Every 10th point is a reinforced boss with a more valuable reward (for example, cores for the arsenal).
Risk of fleet loss
In the "Endless Expanse" you can lose part of the fleet, in combat sectors — losses in battle. The composition and size of the fleet matter.

Questions and answers

What unlocks expeditions?
Expeditions are unlocked by the "Astrophysics" research — the higher its level, the more flotillas go out per sortie. And access to combat sectors is given by a separate "Expedition" research: Ruins — 1, Barbarians — 3, Pirates — 6, Devastators — 8.
How do the "Endless Expanse" differ from other sectors?
It is the only non-combat sector — searching for resources, fleet, dark matter and star ore without battles. The other four (Ruins, Barbarians, Pirates, Devastators) are combat ones.
What can you find in an expedition?
Resources, dark matter, star ore (a large fleet is needed), fleet, parts and cores for the arsenal, as well as random finds.
Can you lose your fleet?
Yes. In the "Endless Expanse" there is a risk of losing part of the fleet, in combat sectors the fleet dies in battle. That is why the composition and size of the fleet matter.
What are bosses in sectors?
Each combat sector is a map of points. Every 10th point is a reinforced boss with a more valuable reward (for example arsenal cores).
How many points are there in a combat sector?
Each combat sector has 50 target points. The first is open right away, each next one is unlocked by victory over the previous. The target's power and the required fleet size grow with the point number, and at 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50 reinforced bosses await.
